Legislation to control acid crimes
Islamabad—Federal Minister for Women Development Dr Firdous Aashiq Awan said on Wednesday that the government will come up with a concrete legislation on Acid Crime and Prevention to bring perpetrators of such crimes to the task.
During a meeting with the representative of Acid Survivor Foundation (ASF) Valerie Khan, Firdous said that the acid crime and prevention bill is being formulated in consultation with the ASF.
However, it will include the recommendations of the private members of assembly who earlier presented the bills in the parliament.
The bill is in the stage of finalization and soon will be forwarded to Ministry of Law and Justice for amendments, she said.
Elaborating, Firdous said there will be two separate bills one on Acid Crime and other on Acid Prevention.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has made several legislations to empower the womenfolk of the country, involving them at the level of decision making and passage of this bill further ensure their protection, Firdous added.
Acid crimes are heinous offences and among the worst social evils and mostly women are the victims.—APP
